چکیده

Abstract The proper evaluation of whether our given bodily capabilities and environmental properties allow particular actions is indispensable for pertinent decisions, so-called affordance judgments. These can be impacted by older age or brain damage. Virtual Environments (VEs) may provide an efficient opportunity to offer trainings. But do people make judgments in VEs the same way that they Physical (PEs)? And are these decisions trainable use VEs? We investigated 24 healthy young adults’ judgment performance not could fit their hand into a aperture. They were presented with set opening-increments indicated pressing yes- no-button. stimuli PE using aperture apparatus VE displayed Oculus Rift goggles. Our results demonstrated level equivalence specific variable: While we found between accuracy parameter, uncertain non-equivalent perceptual sensitivity tendency, respectively. When applying training VE, improved significantly when tested subsequently within VE. Improvement appeared detectable only on descriptive level. Furthermore, testing post-training revealed approached PE-level. Promisingly, approach applicable efficacious Future studies need specify factors enhance detection theory variables facilitate transfer from PEs judging action opportunities.

Editorial. Virtual research environments: Issues and opportunities for librarians

The Virtual Research Environment, or VRE, is a relatively young concept and is still making the transition from research topic to real-world product. It has begun to appear on the radar of a small but increasing number of librarians and, to a lesser extent, researchers. The VRE is likely to have a huge impact on many aspects of research and, thus, on the role of the academic and the research li...

Learning to interact: connecting perception with action in virtual environments

Modeling synthetic characters which interact with objects in dynamic virtual worlds is important when we want the agents to act in an autonomous and non-preplanned way. Such interactions with objects would allow the synthetic characters to behave in a more believable way. Once objects offer innumerous uses, it is essential that the agent is able to acquire the necessary knowledge to identify ac...

Combining Physical and Virtual Channels: Opportunities, Imperatives and Challenges

Despite the attention focused on click and mortar strategies, little empirical work has directly addressed the sources of competitive advantage of this approach, nor the factors that distinguish between a successful and unsuccessful implementation. In this paper, we review theoretical work that establishes the basis for expecting synergy between e-commerce and physical presence in a market. We ...

The Contribution of Physical and Mental Trainings to Depression and Insomnia Disorders in Older Adults

Introduction: Aging is associated with biological changes and may lead to various cognitive behavioural disorders such as insomnia and depression. Non-pharmacological interventions with pharmacological therapies would be effective, economical, and safe. The present study compared the effect of muscle strength-range of movement (MSROM) training and digital game on insomnia and depression disorde...
